Principles of a Successful Transition from External Donor Funding

This paper is intended to advise the UK government and other donors who have decided to end support to a country on how a transition should take place in order to sustain and expand the benefits of development.  This paper uses case studies from 5 projects, 3 funded by the Global Fund (GF) and 2 funded by the Department for International Development (DFID) in varied geographic locations to pull out the common themes of what leads to a successful transition. It gathers lessons learnt from transitions that have already taken place to inform donors as they plan future transitions. (2016)
